Letter : New Orleans, to James Madison, 1807 Apr 3.

AL in secretarial hand signed by Claiborne, addressed to "The honble [honorable] the Secretary of State," in which Claiborne acknowledges receipt of Madison's letter of February 14, and says that he will comply with the contents of the letter. Claiborne adds that "Every thing is tranquil here, except the abuse which is yet continued against General [James] Wilkinson and myself." Verso contains note "Apr 3rd, Gov. Claiborne, Recd. May 4, 1807."

William C. C. Claiborne practiced law in Tennessee and became judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee in 1796.
